Zynx Health: The Provider of Vital Information for Healthier Lives

Zynx Health: The Provider of Vital Information for Healthier Lives

Evidence-based decision making is an integral part of healthcare. It involves combining the knowledge arising from one’s clinical expertise, patient preferences, and research evidence that lies within the availability of resources. And just like all decision making, evidence-based decision making in healthcare requires the researchers and doctors to choose from a discrete range of options.

As defined by Sackett, a pioneer of evidence-based healthcare, “Evidence-based medicine is the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. The practice of evidence-based medicine means integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research.”

The roots of evidence-based practice are, in fact, linked to evidence-based medicine. Luckily, the history of evidence-based medicine has been well documented which provides a basis for further studies. According to these documents, evidence-based medicine includes primitive experiments to test the effectiveness of practices such as bloodletting.

In 1996, a group of thought leaders, who realized the importance of evidence-based healthcare and healthcare quality improvement came together and established Zynx Health. The company was founded around a mission to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare.

The Founding Stone

“Our historical roots as a quality improvement innovator for a large healthcare system and as a pioneer in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of evidence-based care guidance solutions are integral to our culture that strives to improve patient outcomes and financial performance,” says Kevin Daly, the President of Zynx Health. “This foundation is exemplified by our employees, who represent the best talent and expertise across the intersection of content creation, technical delivery, and clinical adoption,” he adds.

Based in Los Angeles, the company serves over 1,900 hospitals and outpatient practices globally, though most are located in the US. As of 2012, Zynx Health products and services impact over 50% of hospital discharges in the US. As of 2004, Zynx Health became a subsidiary of Hearst Corporation.

Evidence-based at its Best

Today, after two decades, Zynx Health is a recognized leader in evidence-based clinical decision support and offers a suite of online solutions that help clinicians treat their patients based on the best available evidence from systematic research. The evidence-based clinical decision support system solutions are made available at the point of patient care through electronic health record (EHR) systems.

“At Zynx, our solutions make it easier to reach your quality and financial goals,” notes Daly. The company’s wide range of clinical, content, and technology resources enhance the care process by delivering vital information, tools, and processes to healthcare organizations across the entire care episode. Zynx Health helps in improving patient outcomes, financial performance, clinical engagement, and technology performance — all resulting in higher quality patient care and lower costs. The company’s solutions include ZynxAnalytics, ZynxCare, ZynxEvidence, Zynx Health, and ZynxOrder.

Improving patient outcomes requires more than just up-to-date evidence. It’s about having the right evidence in an accessible format that fits naturally within clinician workflows. At Zynx Health, the company’s solutions drive performance by delivering vital information that has been proven to positively impact patient outcomes and that easily integrates into end-user workflows.

  • Improving Financial Performances

By standardizing content and reducing variation, Zynx Health helps healthcare organizations reduce penalties and elicit greater financial returns under recent US healthcare reform policies, including Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program (HAC), Hospital Readmissions Reduction Program (HRRP), Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP). Fiscal prosperity under these mandatory pay-for-performance programs requires the highest quality of care. Zynx Health’s solutions and services take performance measures a step further by highlighting vital interventions that are tied to improved outcomes. This evidence provides a foundation that aligns with pay-for-performance initiatives and provides you the flexibility to continuously drive outcomes improvement and achieve peak clinical and financial performance.

  • Improving Clinical Engagement

To improve clinical and financial outcomes, evidence-based care guidance must be used consistently at the point of care. The company’s solutions deliver relevant content and workflows that drive consistent clinician adoption by cutting through the noise of overwhelming healthcare research. “We can quickly distinguish changes with the most impact on patient outcomes, and we build accountability by involving clinicians during all stages of clinical decision support (CDS) development and maintenance,” explains the President.

  • Improving Technology Performance

Zynx Health solutions complement the electronic health record (EHR), computerized provider order entry system, and clinical processes to improve the performance. Innovative approaches around content integration, clinical content validation, and single-system content maintenance streamline projects and maximize the value of healthcare technology and processes.
