James Gunn highlights respect for VFX artists by allowing amply time for high-quality visual effects in DC films.
DC Studios CEO James Gunn recently pledged to make sure VFX artists had the time to produce outstanding work in a post on Instagram's Threads. Gunn, who is most known for his work on the "Guardians of the Galaxy" television series, lauded the caliber of the visual effects in his films, citing his admiration for Weta, Framestore, and ILM's skills as well as the VFX process itself.
Gunn went into further detail about his method, stating that it entails completing main filming far in advance of a movie's release, beginning in-depth editing as the picture is being shot, and working from completed screenplays. This method was evident in his upcoming film Superman: Legacy, which wrapped production a year before its release. The same approach is being applied to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, directed by Craig Gillespie.
Gunn's commitment to producing highly qualified visual effects is still setting the standard in the industry, as seen by the highly anticipated debut of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Superman: Legacy on July 11, 2025, respectively, in theaters. The emphasis on high-quality visual effects is indicative of a larger dedication to quality in the DC Universe, which is a reinvention of the DC Extended Universe.
