Demonstrators raid Microsoft Redmond headquarters, burning the office of Brad Smith, urging the corporation to cancel cloud services to the Israeli government.
Microsoft forced a temporary closure of a section of its Redmond headquarters as protestors entered the office of Microsoft president Brad Smith. The Verge reported that demonstrators had held a sit-in in Building 34, where they wanted to see Microsoft terminate its cloud contracts with the Israeli government.
The strike motivated by the activism group No Azure to Apartheid, envisioned employees who were and remained employed by Microsoft. The demonstrators broadcasted the heavy content on Twitch, displayed banners, and claimed that Microsoft is promoting human rights violations.
Smith then proceeded to hold a press conference, terming the day as an unusual day and, moreover, insisting that Microsoft had the resolve to enforce the rule of the contract and human rights. He identified seven participants of the protest, two of whom were employees of the day, and stated that he disliked the fact that when questioned to leave, they refused.
It was not the first boycott against the activities of Microsoft in the Middle East. Previously, protestors broke into the 50th anniversary celebration of the company and attacked API CEO Mustafa Suleyman. Law enforcement officers in Redmond affirmed that some of the protesters have previously been arrested due to their demonstrations during such marches.
The constant repetitions point to the build-up of internal and external pressure on Microsoft to leave its relationships with governments, particularly in areas where there is conflict.
