Zach Bryan joins Drake and The Weeknd in boycotting 2025 Grammys, claiming 'not enjoying competitive award culture.'
Country music sensation Zach Bryan has been recently in the news regarding his decision to boycott the Grammy awards for 2025, just like many artists have done including Drake, The Weeknd, and others. These reasons make it clear to those recording academy members why there was no ballot submitted from Bryan in the works that he period for consideration.
Close sources to the musician explain that Bryan is simply not comfortable with these competitive shows that are negative in nature that awards center show business around music. This is a change for the singer, whose work submitted for awards before, but it corresponds with his usual skepticism towards the music business.
Still, it is worth mentioning that Bryan is coming off a successful year with regards to candidacy even though he has boycotted this particular award ceremony, as he won his first Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for the Elton Josh’s duet titled “I Remember Everything” with Kacey Musgraves. He has garnered a total of four, country ones in the predominately country categories, which he never considers exclusively for countries.
Bryan follows a growing trend among high profile artists who are questioning whether the awards actually recognize artistic merit. Last year, Drake pulled his own boycott after he was shut out of nominations and The Weeknd famously said no to submitting his work when he wasn't nominated.
In line with some other decisions regarding the Grammys, Bryan requested their music label Warner to refrain from any music promotion for him, thereby, elaborating on his disaffiliation with the “music industry machine.” In spite of the controversies especially one where he made an apology for equating Kanye West and Taylor Swift, he still has a good standing in the world of music.
