DHS assigns biometric leadership to CIO Antoine McCord, giving greater control over security, modernization and the long-delayed HART program to databases.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has rearranged management of its biometric data operations by appointing Chief Information Officer Antoine McCord, as per FedScoop. FedScoop reports that the receivership was transferred to the Chief Information Officer, Antoine McCord. The move grants McCord authority over the Office of Biometric Identity Management (OBIM), a key player in DHS operations.
This is a shift in the array of decisions to de-modalify the usage of biometrics by the federal systems at the White House. Critical functions of agencies that can be assisted by the OBIM include the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Customs and Border Protection. The structure of this transformation center codes on the Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART) project aimed at the replacement of the outmoded Automated Biometric Identification System (IDENT).
As McCord becomes the leader of biometric systems, DHS is set to modernize its digital infrastructure and improve the practice of database management. The agency has the view that effective database management will move HART faster towards implementation and enhance data protection and delivery of a seamless biometric experience across departments.
The relocation highlights an increased importance of database management in national security since it not only assists in cybersecurity activities but also in digital modernization efforts. The leaders of DHS have also highlighted the fact that complex database management apps will improve efficiency, secure sensitive data, and minimize expenditures on biometric technology.
