Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero Shatters Records

The long-awaited sequel sets new milestones, dominating gaming platforms with incredible launch success

The highly anticipated Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has made an explosive debut, selling an astounding three million copies within its first 24 hours of release. The first sequel in over 15 years for the beloved Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi series launched on October 11 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC via Steam, instantly climbing the ranks to become one of the most-played games on Valve’s platform.

The game, developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Bandai Namco, is an arena brawler that captures the spirit and iconic visuals of the legendary anime. Upon launch, Sparking! Zero recorded a peak player count of 122,554 on Steam, surpassing all previous Dragon Ball game records on the platform, including the popular Dragon Ball FighterZ, which had a peak of 44,303. At the time of reporting, the game still holds a significant player base with a 24-hour peak of 83,313.

To put this success in perspective, Sparking! Zero outperformed major fighting game titles like Capcom’s Street Fighter 6, which peaked at 70,573 players, and NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat 1, which reached 38,129.

IGN rated the game a solid 7/10, stating: “Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is a final flash from the past, sometimes to a fault, but the nostalgia of a simpler time when games didn’t have to be balanced or competitive to be fun is still very much alive.”

With its spectacular launch, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is a must-play for fans, and its early success signals an exciting new chapter for the franchise.
