Georgia Tech initiates the new media and entertainment school to train the future generation of industry leaders in film, games, music and immersive technologies.
Georgia Tech is impending to launch a School of Arts, Entertainment and Creative Technologies and a B.S. degree of the same name, expected to equip students to take leadership roles in the film, gaming, immersive media and music sectors.
The new school will be part of the College of Design and will provide industry-relevant, experiential courses based in the studio and capstone projects with creative studios and technology firms. The curriculum will combine the knowledge of several colleges across Georgia Tech, strengthening the school in its claims of being a leader in media and entertainment innovation as well.
The project fits the creative economy that is growing in Georgia, where creative industries increased by 210 percent since 2008, with an output of 14.7 billion each year and the creation of more than 40,000 jobs. Georgia leads the U.S. in film production (No. 1) and will soon take the lead in immersive media and media entrepreneurship.
This action is similar to one made by Georgia Tech, which recently unveiled the Creative Quarter, an innovation district that would be the new desirable arts and entertainment center in Atlanta. Admission to the degree will open in fall 2026, once the University System of Georgia Board of Regents approves it.
