First feature drop arrives for the Pixel

Google has announced the first feature drop for the Pixel. It is the first among a whole slew of upgrades the premium mobile will receive like clockwork every month. The very first one comes with a new way to capture portraits, automatic call screening and simpler Duo calls. The biggest of these is the call screening update.

Automatic Call Screening

If you’re a Pixel 4 user, with the latest update to the Call Screen, Google Assistant can help you screen the unknown callers and filter the robocalls before the phone even rings. The Call Screen update though will show the context if the call is not a robocall. The update makes Call Screen native to the device. Users will not need Wi-Fi or data to get the feature.

Better Duo Calls

Now, you can be assured that your face stays centered during your Duo calls so that you can focus on the conversation you’re having. Auto-framing makes use of Pixel 4’s wide lens to keep the face centered. The camera also adjusts if another person decides to join the call with you.

Duo calls are also becoming better as a machine learning model is now being used to predict the likely next sound when bad connection makes the audio choppy. The display is also smoother with the video feed refreshing up to 90 times a second.

Capture portraits in a new way

The new feature drop enables the user to turn any photo into a portrait. You can now blur the background after you have taken a photo. The feature can turn any photo into a portrait.
