FC Goa against Al Seeb 2-1 got to the AFC Champions League Two group stage, which was a historical moment in Indian football.
FC Goa won a 2-1 nervy match against Al Seeb Club to reach the round of 16 of the group stage of the AFC Champions League Two to secure quality football between September and May.
A goal is scored by Dejan Drazic who was very quick and relaxed during the 25th minute. Javier Siverio doubled the lead early in the second half with a clinical header. But the supporters of Oman responded with the 60th goal by Nasser Sultan Alrawahi and this gave the team an edgy finish.
Al Seeb was obviously in control of the play with relentless attacks, yet Goa stood resolute and strong on its defense, led by Sandesh Jhingan and Pol Moreno. Hosts, Goa banked on home comfort and ferocious home backing to get the better of a potentially threatening side.
This is a first-time experience for the Indian football club Goa which enters the 32-team event after making history as the second Indian club, after ISL winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant, to play in the AFC Cup. In the prize pool of $16 million, both the clubs are guaranteed at least $300,000.
This victory provides a moment of victory and encouragement to the development of football in the region that is normally considered a game with numerous problems in India.
