Shami Faces Test Tour Exclusion Amid Injury Concerns

Owing to injury and medical concerns, BCCI feels Shami's fitness and stamina have dropped, so he may be left out of the Test team bound for England.

A new set of challenges has cropped up in Mohammed Shami’s career after the BCCI allegedly decided to leave him out of the upcoming tour of England. Being injured often has prevented Shami from bowling for long periods in Tests, a skill that is especially vital in England. His experience does not seem to have comforted the BCCI doctors about his physical condition and ability to bowl for long spells.

His minor role for the SRH at the IPL 2025 season shows that Shami was struggling with his injuries and could bowl for only four overs per game. The medical staff informed Ajit Agarkar and the selection committee that Shami lacks the ability to bowl the lengthy spells required for Tests.

Since there are medical concerns and Shami isn’t playing well, a chance for a new player presents itself. The left-arm bowler Arshdeep Singh could make his Test debut and Haryana’s Anshul Kamboj, who has taken 74 wickets in 22 first-class matches, may be chosen too. Kamboj is already involved as a member of the India A squad visiting England.

The squad will be announced by the BCCI in due course. Some people have also spoken out in favor of Jasprit Bumrah for the position, while debate over Shubman Gill as Test captain continues. How Shami is recovering and what his injury means remains a major element in India’s planning for the England tour.
