The victory parade held by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in celebration of their win led to a stampede which resulted in 11 deaths and questioned safety measures in place.

A disaster at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium left 11 people dead and many others injured during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory celebration. Thousands rushed outside the stadium to join the celebration of RCB winning the IPL for the very first time. Congestion built up in the narrow entry passages because a large crowd formed.

People thirsting to see a victory parade wanted to go which led to the incident that caused the stampede. Hospitals received the badly injured and family members had to cope with the loss of their loved ones. A heartbroken father asked authorities not to autopsy his son, showing the effect of the disaster on families.

The event has worried many about the security of people who gather in large crowds. According to Siddaramaiah, there will be a complete inquiry into the incident and the report is to be ready in 15 days. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed regret for the overcrowding still insisting that safety must be maintained without alienating the “young crowd.”

PM Narendra Modi offered his condolences and prayers for those whose families and loved ones were injured. It highlights that better law & order and safety measures are needed at events like the Royal Challengers Bengaluru victory parade, so that we do not see anything similar happen again.
