What Are the Most Popular Games in Esports Today

When assessing the entertainment space, gaming is thriving. An alluring package capable of improving a dull day, it’s exceptional in 2026. However, alongside casual mobile gamers and avid console gamers is a huge professional gaming scene that is garnering global attention. Called eSports, it’s an industry that is rapidly growing.

Not every game is necessarily suitable for a competitive clash in the eSports environment, though. For example, as enticing as options like McLuck live blackjack and Pokémon Go are, these more solitary gaming experiences don’t offer intense clashes against rivals. There are some alternative options, though. Some games are co-op favorites; others require large teams of players; and there are also sports-themed games where players aim to sink their rivals.

With an increasing number of titles drawing in millions of viewers and enabling successful eSports players to earn vast sums of money, we briefly highlight below the most popular games in the eSports sphere.

Counter‑Strike 2

Tactical shooters like Counter‑Strike  2 almost feel like they’ve been created for the eSports category. With teamwork being a necessity and sharpshooting abilities under the microscope, it’s one of the more ruthless eSports offerings out there. It can be highly lucrative for triumphant players, though, with Counter-Strike 2’s prize money on offer through various competitions reaching a staggering $4.83 million in 2025.

EA Sports FC 26

Since the memorable days of FIFA, competitive football gaming has been prevalent in the eSports space. Through options like Ultimate Team, where players assemble squads filled with current stars and legendary players, the game was ideal for the eSports environment. Fast forward to 2026, and EA Sports FC 26 is the main football-themed game on the eSports menu, with what is essentially a rebranded FIFA offering the same Ultimate Team aspect. For football fans and gamers alike, watching skilled players from all corners of the globe take part in close matches on a virtual pitch is always great, end-to-end entertainment.

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Even mobile games are part of the eSports journey. Arguably the best product of the lot, though, is Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, a fast-paced release offering MOBA gameplay in epic matches. With players going to war with each other in an attempt to come out on top in highly competitive and occasionally brutal clashes, it’s an eSport that has millions of fans behind it. For instance, the M5 World Championship is the biggest competition associated with the game. In 2024, a staggering 5 million peak viewership was achieved as fans from around the world tuned in to watch professional players face off in tight Mobile Legends: Bang Bang encounters.

Rocket League

Rocket League is another popular sports-themed title like EA Sports FC 26, except players control miniature high-powered vehicles instead of footballers. With tight clashes taking place between teams of players, Rocket League is a blast to watch. A delightful combination of the beautiful game and high-flying cars, the game’s 1v1 clashes and 3v3 meetings have always been popular.

Dota2

Alongside the aforementioned Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Dota 2 is up there with the finest battle-filled products in the eSports space. With complex strategies needing to be executed and a high skill ceiling on show given the game’s intricate nature, it’s always a fascinating watch witnessing highly talented players do battle in this multiplayer online battle arena favorite. A key part of the eSports ecosystem, Dota 2 pulls in millions of viewers during average tournaments, with eSports teams everywhere regarding this much-loved title as one of the toughest to succeed in when looking at the eSports industry as a whole.
