Sow&Reap Agro Earns 37,000 Carbon Credits in Telangana

Sow&Reap Agro acquires 37,000 carbon credits in Telangana that reduce emissions and increase incomes of farmers through agro tech.

Climate-tech Company Sow&Reap Agro has made an important mark on its journey as it has received more than 37,000 carbon credits through international certification company Gold Standard, covering its Tejas Experimental Farm producing Sustainably Grown Paddies (SGP) at Telangana. Held between eight districts, the project embedded the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) approach in reducing methane emission and utilized the raw startup blockchain-driven Digital Measurement, Reporting and Verification (DMRV) package.

CEO and founder Suraj Teja emphasized that Sow&Reap Agro is the pioneer to achieve so in the industry. The bootstrapped venture is already engaged with at least six agro tech projects in the agriculture, forestry and waste-to-energy space with a view to saving 5 lakh tonnes of greenhouse gases and earning more than 1 million carbon credits in two years.

In collaboration with a 2nd source called Kosher Climate, the program covered more than 35000 farmers across nearly 1 lakh acres of districts such as Jagitial, Karimnagar, and Mahbubnagar. Full traceability was assured through an agro tech solution in the collection of data up to the issuance of carbon credits.

Teja suggests that not only can sustainable farming techniques reduce the environmental impact but more importantly, they provide new sources of income to farmers through advanced agro tech tools. The program contributed to increased paddy production, decreased amount of water, and less fertilizer application that highlighted the life-changing nature of technology in agriculture.
