Netflix animation studios get new head

Netflix appoints Hannah Minghella to lead its animation studios, marking a strategic move to strengthen original content, creative leadership, and global animation growth.

Netflix has reorganized two portfolios involving two top executives, demonstrating the increasing significance of animation. Formerly in charge of both live-action family films and feature animation, Hannah Minghella will now concentrate only on animation. The seasoned executive has been appointed head of Netflix Animation Studios, where she will be in charge of three Netflix animation studio locations, a huge slate, and more than 1,000 workers spread across three continents.

Minghella will concentrate only on animation. She began working at Netflix in 2024 as the head of feature animation and live action family movies. In her new position, she will oversee the studio's three animation facilities in Burbank, Vancouver, and Sydney, which employ more than 1,000 people, and head a feature schedule that includes "Kpop Demon Hunters 2," "Ray Gunn," and "The Mitchells vs. the Machines 2." Additionally, Minghella will concentrate on developing franchises in a variety of industries, such as consumer goods and live events.

As part of the transition, Racheline Benveniste will take over as director of family films in the United Kingdom while also managing Greta Gerwig's "Narnia: The Magician's Nephew and Roald Dahl feature film properties." Throughout the change, Minghella will continue to supervise Eloise.

Hannah Minghella’s appointment signals Netflix’s commitment to building a world-class animation ecosystem driven by creativity and innovation.

As part of the shift, Netflix's live-action family film portfolio will be overseen by Vice President of Film Kira Goldberg. Goldberg is currently in charge of the company's thrillers, dramas, and faith based movies. He has directed family-friendly films like The Life List and Remarkably Bright Creatures in addition to the popular thriller Apex.

Minghella and Goldberg are important members of the executive team who report to Dan Lin, Netflix's Chairman of Film, and they are anticipated to collaborate closely during the changeover.

CIO Bulletin observes that Netflix is pitching animation as a major growth area rather than merely a supporting category in response to viewers growing desire for varied, creative, and visually innovative entertainment.
