Maharashtra is promoting green driving by subsidizing electric vehicles, making them exempt from taxes and building more charging stations.
The Maharashtra government has introduced its Electric Vehicle Policy 2025 and pledged Rs 1,993 crore spread out over the next five years to promote EVs. The plan includes efforts to make EVs easier to use and helps create more charging stations, aiming for a 30 percent growth in use by 2030.
Commercial electric vehicles receive up to Rs 2 lakh in subsidies, while electric buses get up to Rs 20 lakh. The government excludes personal EVs, but the policy applies to 25,000 electric cars and 1,500 buses. In addition, EV users do not have to pay the toll on important expressways and are exempt from registration fees and road tax.
Stations for electric cars will be placed every 25 km along highways to help charging. Electric vehicle charging must be part of the designs for all new buildings and 20 percent of the parking in all older commercial properties must be for EV charging.
In FY 2025, Maharashtra was ahead in India’s EV market, selling 246,221 units and 17,133 electric passenger vehicles, up 21% from the previous year. The aim is for the policy to help today’s electric cars and also make room for the latest smart transport designs.
Promoting EV and concept cars, the state hopes to lead the nation in green transportation and confirm its strong commitment to both sustainability and invention.
