chinese electric vehicle brands show strong market presence at the 18th nada auto show in kathmandu nepal as sustainable green mobility demand grows
In Kathmandu on Tuesday, the NADA Auto Show’s 18th edition kicked off with impressive participation from Chinese electric vehicle brands. The exhibition, which is being organized by the NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal, is a five-day event in which over 50 top motor manufacturers are participating, such as Chinese BYD, Geely, Aion, Great Wall Motors, and Foton.
The exhibition is now the second major international auto show in Nepal within a month, showing consumer demand growth in Nepal.
The exhibition spans around 200 operational stalls showcasing light passenger cars, commercial transport units, micro-vans, and personal two-wheelers alongside ancillary spare components. The exhibition highlighted contributions from the following Chinese electric vehicle makers:
Passenger and commercial vehicles: Notably present at the event are brands like BYD, Geely, Aion, Great Wall Motors, and Foton.
Types of vehicles included in the exhibition: The exhibition consists of 23 passenger car brands, 17 commercial vehicle brands, and 13 motorcycle brands.
Support Services: Services include banking services from prominent banks, auto insurance providers, and services in spare parts maintenance and delivery.
During his inaugural speech at the exhibition, Save the Earth, Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav emphasized the importance of the shift to clean transportation and the improvement of the capacity of local assembly.
"The widespread use of electric vehicles directly helps reduce dependence on fuel imports and thereby contributes to narrowing the country's trade deficit," Yadav remarked during his opening address.
He stressed that expanding local charging infrastructure will protect foreign exchange reserves while promoting national industrial self-reliance.
Beyond vehicle sales, the domestic automotive trade plays a critical role in sustaining economic stability and public employment across the nation:
Revenue Generation: Yields approximately 90 billion Nepali rupees ($588.1 million USD) annually for the state treasury.
Workforce Support: Provides direct and indirect livelihoods for nearly one million workers nationwide.
Fiscal Transition: Lowers national dependence on imported fossil fuels through clean energy integration.
Carbon emissions reductions are the priority today for cities, and developments in international automotive investments keep changing the local supply chain. The emergence of Chinese electric car brands shows how technological availability and lower prices are influencing consumers in South Asia. CIO Bulletin views this development as indicating that the time has finally come for clean technology and economic transformation.
