Netflix has shut its higher-end game development studio Team Blue, thus steering its way towards mobile console games, and is also on the way to incorporate more and more games to its original series.

Netflix’s gaming efforts have come to a standstill, especially after dissolving Team Blue, its studio based in Southern California. The studio was centered on AAA games and was an essential for Netflix in their overall gaming strategy. This shutdown comes after Netflix lost important execs with experience on games we know today such as Halo, Overwatch, and God of War which challenges Netflix’s gaming venture.

Team Blue was believed to be in pre-release stages of production for an original IP multi-platform AAA game when this announcement was made that the production had been temporarily shelved. This closure comes as a disappointment because it paints a picture that Netflix is revising its plans for gaming, which originally intended to be a more aggressive penetration into the market.

Last year, a gaming company freshens up its services with denomination mobile and other genre’s games including Grand Theft Auto and Hades. They also released original games like Cosy Grove: Lost Signals, as a company dedicated to the advancement of the growth of gaming.

The closure of its AAA studio’s operations, however, has not stopped Netflix from providing over a hundred games through its subscription service. The company podcasts its strategy as aiming for mobile games in sizable family oriented AAA games.

Namely, one additional game is indicated to be released each month, already inclusive of the titles to be featured about the series Outer Banks and Squid Games, thus expanding its gaming catalog.
