As per reports, Apple will license Google's Gemini AI model for the Siri revamp in a billion-dollar deal.
Apple is in the process of sealing a deal with Google to integrate the tech giant's artificial intelligence model named Gemini into the company's Siri voice assistant, according to a report. The agreement, which is valued at about $1 billion per year, will give Apple access to Google's AI model of 1.2 trillion parameters, far more advanced than the company's current systems.
This move signifies a significant partnership between two of Silicon Valley's most formidable competitors. Apple intends to use the Gemini algorithm from Google as a placeholder while it works on its own large-scale AI systems to take its place, which are said to be delayed to 2026. However, Apple's operating systems do not integrate AI search with Google as part of this partnership.
Google, which already uses the Gemini model to power its own assistant, did not text for comment on the alleged deal. Apple, too, did not respond to media queries.
This development comes as there is growing competition between the AI-driven voice assistants. Amazon has introduced a new version of Alexa, and Google is continuing to expand the reach of Gemini onto its products. The tie-in is set to provide Siri with a long-overdue boost to complex multi-step command and third-party integration.
If the deal is finalized, it could be a landmark in Apple's AI strategy and cement Google's influence on the next generation of AI-enabled consumer technologies.
