Tech Giants React to Trump’s H-1B Visa Fee

Google and the other tech giants react to the Trump H-1B visa fee of $100,000, requesting workers to remain in America.

The new proclamation of President Donald Trump, which includes the introduction of a fee of $100,000 to fill out the H-1B visa applications, has provided an immediate reaction to large tech corporations, such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft.

These firms have already given recommendations to employees on H-1B visas to stay in the United States and not travel to other countries due to the White House announcement that will come into effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern on Sunday. Google reportedly issued internal memos urging employees to return before the regulation takes effect.

Business Insider published memos from Amazon and Microsoft, but other reports suggested that Google was also communicating the same information. Another spokesperson of Microsoft refused to comment and TechCrunch is waiting to get new answers from Amazon and Google.

According to government data, Amazon is leading in H-1B receivers this fiscal year, followed by Tata Consultancy Services, Microsoft, Meta, and Apple, and then Google is ranked as sixth.

The White House made it clear later that the new fee is only applicable to fresh applicants and not renewals. The Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt assured that the existing H-1B visa holders do not lose the privilege of traveling as they used to before.

This abrupt change in policy has made global technicians in international tech companies, especially Google and its counterparts look forward to the shocks in workforce mobility and hiring.
