The fifth part of the popular "Shrek" film series features an official announcement by DreamWorks Animation of the return of cherished characters.
The widely expected fifth part of the classic film Shrek, which would open in theaters on July 1, 2026, was officially announced by DreamWorks Animation. With Mike Myers repeating his role as the endearing green ogre Shrek, Cameron Diaz playing Princess Fiona, and Eddie Murphy once again as the wise donkey, the original star cast is back in their roles. The official confirmation of Antonio Banderas' Puss in Boots part is still not confirmed.
Social media was used to make the news, which marked 25 years since the original "Shrek" movie was released. Known for its irreverent comedy and endearing characters, the franchise has inspired several spinoffs and sequels, most recently "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish."
Eddie Murphy has previously alluded to the project while promoting "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F," disclosing that he was still working on "Shrek 5" in addition to an impending spinoff with a donkey as its main character.
In the wacky world of "Shrek," which is renowned for fusing poignant storytelling with a spoof of fairy tales, fans can expect another adventure. The series' ongoing appeal has also been shown in Universal Studios theme parks and a Broadway musical that is nominated for a Tony Award.
