Pharmaceutical giant launches “J&J Direct” to make key medicines more accessible for uninsured and cash-paying patients in the United States.
In a move aimed at making medicines easier to access, Johnson & Johnson has introduced a new online platform that allows certain prescription drugs to be purchased directly by patients in the United States. The website, called J&J Direct, is designed mainly for people who do not have health insurance or those who pay for their medications out of pocket.
The newly launched platform currently lists three medications: Invokana and Invokamet, both used to treat diabetes, and Xarelto, a widely prescribed blood thinner. By offering these medicines directly through its own website, the pharmaceutical giant hopes to simplify the process for patients who often struggle with complicated pricing and access barriers in the healthcare system.
The initiative also reflects a broader effort by the company to improve direct access to its medicines. Earlier this year, Johnson & Johnson reached an agreement with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to help lower drug prices. As part of the deal, the company pledged to expand access to its treatments while benefiting from certain tariff exemptions.
The new platform arrives at a time when the U.S. government is pushing pharmaceutical companies to reduce the cost of medicines. Officials have already reached agreements with 16 drugmakers to lower prices for Medicaid programs and for consumers paying in cash.
Several companies, including Pfizer and Eli Lilly, have launched similar direct-to-consumer platforms in recent years, signaling a growing shift in how medicines reach patients. The U.S. government has also launched TrumpRx.gov, a separate platform offering discounted prescription drugs. While Johnson & Johnson has agreed to participate in the initiative, none of its medicines are currently listed on the site.
