SpaceX fires rocket in anticipation of the upcoming astronaut launch

Before the Crew-8 mission for NASA was scheduled to launch on Friday, March 1, the company conducted a static fire test.

Prior to its upcoming astronaut flight, SpaceX has achieved yet another significant feat. Early on February 27, the business declared that it had successfully tested a static fire on the Falcon 9 rocket, which will carry NASA's Crew-8 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Prelaunch maneuvers known as "static fires" include momentarily lighting a rocket's engines while the spacecraft is secured to the launch pad.

If the weather cooperates, Crew-8 is set to launch on Friday, March 1st, at 12:04 a.m. EST (0504 GMT) from Pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of SpaceX, shared a picture of the static fire on X on Tuesday. The business used its official X account to do the same.

Four astronauts from NASA, including mission commander Matthew Dominick, pilot Michael Barrett, mission specialist Jeannette Epps, and mission specialist Alexander Grebenkin from Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, will travel on Crew-8 to the International Space Station for an approximately six-month stay.

This Falcon 9 will be used for its first mission, Crew-8. But the four space flyers will go in a well-worn Crew Dragon spacecraft. The vehicle, named Endeavour, has now completed four crewed ISS trips, the first of which was SpaceX's 2020 Demo-2 astronaut mission.
