BASF Expands Satellite Partnership to Enhance Digital Farm Tools
In a significant move to advance agricultural technology, BASF is leveraging satellite imagery to enhance its digital farming tools. This week, the agricultural chemicals giant announced an expanded commercial partnership with Planet Labs, the operator of the world’s largest constellation of Earth observation satellites.
BASF will increase its use of two key Planet Labs products. One combines radar and optical signals to provide farmers with a clearer understanding of their fields' status, while the other offers near-daily imagery of agricultural fields worldwide. These tools will boost BASF’s Xarvio digital solutions brand, which delivers field-level insights to help farmers optimize crop production.
This partnership underscores BASF's commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into agriculture, aiming to help farmers make better decisions about seeding, nutrition, and weed and disease management. By harnessing satellite data, BASF is poised to support more efficient and sustainable farming practices.
The expanded partnership will help power BASF’s Xarvio digital solutions brand, which provides field-level insights for farmers to optimize crop production. BASF’s Xarvio tools use advanced algorithms and real-time data to offer precise recommendations on crop management, from planting to harvest.
This collaboration is expected to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of BASF’s digital farming solutions. By integrating high-resolution satellite imagery with advanced analytics, BASF aims to help farmers increase yields, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact.
