K-Pop Demon Hunters Scores Oscar Nominations

Netflix production garners lots of Oscar nominations, which demonstrates the prosperity of animation that is culturally oriented.

The K-Pop Demon Hunters Netflix blockbuster has received two nominations in the 98th Academy Awards, which confirms its position as one of the milestone marks of modern animation. The movie is nominated in both categories of Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for the hit song based on the movie's title, which is "Golden."

The creators rejoiced over the announcement. Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the co-directors, explained emotional responses to the news, saying it was important to see an animation with a heavy Korean cultural influence on the largest film stage in the world. Kang claimed that the nominations legitimize the genuine representation and narration in the world of animation.

Singer-songwriter EJAE, who wrote and sang "Golden" as the voice of the protagonist, Rumi, referred to the nomination as life-changing. Her emphasis on the fact that the existence of a K-pop song with Korean lyrics is rarely celebrated at this scale has served to emphasize the growing cultural prominence of the animation-based narration.

K-Pop Demon Hunters is now the most-watched film in the history of Netflix and a big presence on awards boards since its release in June 2025. The movie already received the Awards of Best Animated Feature at the Critics’ Choice Awards and Best Motion Picture Animated during the Golden Globes and was nominated multiple times at the Annie Awards and Grammy Awards.

According to industry observers, the success of the film exemplifies the trend of animation becoming a compulsive force behind global pop culture and a combination of music and representation and new storytelling becoming the ticket to mainstream cinema success.
