Mahavatar Narsimha Breaks Records for Indian Animation

Mahavatar Narsimha also breaks Indian box office records in animated motion pictures, depicting that local animation films can rival international blockbusters.

Mahavatar Narsimha has become the highest-grossing Indian animated film, earning over 200 crores internationally, which far surpasses the previous record of 30 crores set by Kochadaiiyaan starring Rajnikanth. Produced by Hombale Films and directed by Ashwin Kumar, the movie has shaken conventions of what Indian animation can be.

During a success meet, held in Mumbai, producer and co-owner of Hombale Films, Chaluve Gowda said that the team never doubted how the film would do. In contrast to classic views related to animation as a kid production, the film Mahavatar Narsimha was created not specifically as kids' entertainment but as a generalized production of an epic Kannada tale of thirty years ago.

Prior to this, Hollywood had ruled the chart of animation in India, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ranks first with 56 crores. As stressed by Gowda, the success shows that the Indian animation could be competitive on the international market, with numerous Disney films using the services of Indian artists.

The success of the film will possibly trigger other Indian animation activities. Gowda, however, warned that a trend blindly followed without sincerity and originality is not sustainable.

The film will be the first in a hoped-to-be seven-part Mahavatar Cinematic Universe and still has a run in the theaters.
