Streaming giant Sony LIV unveils a groundbreaking animated retelling of Indian mythology exploring identity, courage, and complex warrior loyalty.
A major milestone in digital entertainment has arrived as streaming giant Sony LIV announces its upcoming original mythological series. Industry analysts at CIO Bulletin highlight that The Legend of Karna brings one of the most tragic and powerful figures from the ancient Mahabharata epic to global audiences in a breathtaking animated format. Developed by the animation innovators Sharad Devarajan and Jeevan J. Kang and brought into production by Graphic India, the much-awaited series is set to launch on July 31.
The tale revolves around an exceptionally heroic individual who has been brought up in the house of a charioteer even though he is born of the Sun God Surya and Princess Kunti. However, despite experiencing discrimination all his life, he manages to demonstrate his prowess in archery and attempts to achieve the accolades and success that he deserves. It is at this point that Prince Duryodhana makes him the king.
Is the greatness of any individual determined by royal descent or his individual qualities and devotion? This TV series focuses on such complex issues of unswerving loyalty, prophecy, and responsibility. Highlighting the emotional depth of the project, Graphic India Co-Founder and Showrunner Sharad Devarajan stated, "Karna has always been the tragic heart of the Mahabharata. What the world refused him by birth, his own hands earned through skill, and that question feels more urgent today than ever."
Key visual and thematic highlights of the production include:
Masterful animation portraying grand-scale battles, mythical weapons, and royal court drama.
Deep exploration of complex moral dilemmas and the enduring power of personal promises.
Creative direction from acclaimed creators responsible for prominent global animation projects.
Fresh perspective focusing entirely on an ancient warrior who rarely held center stage.
Media observers at CIO Bulletin note that this launch reflects growing global appetite for sophisticated animated mythology that bridges traditional folklore with modern streaming audiences.
