Employee attrition endangers future of the company at OpenAI

Future OpenAI company endangered

Reversing the decision was demanded by most of the company's employees, including a board member who was involved in Sam Altman's termination as CEO.

OpenAI's future is in doubt, following more than 700 of the total 770 company workers signed a letter on Monday expressing their potential to depart to Microsoft should Sam Altman, the fired CEO, not be reinstated at the popular artificial intelligence startup.

A member of the board who removed Mr. Altman on Friday changed direction on Monday and signed the letter pertaining to an internal message board, as reported by three individuals with knowledge of the situation.

Ilya Sutskever, a board member, also shared on social media outlet X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that "I sincerely apologize for my involvement with the board's decisions.”

The four-member board's decision to remove Mr. Altman claimed he hadn't been truthful, but he omitted to explain how, which sparked a panic. After a corporate power struggle over the weekend, Mr. Altman eventually joined Microsoft to begin a fresh AI endeavor. Microsoft has made $13 billion in investments. In essence, OpenAI has a 49 percent share of the business.

In their letter requesting Mr. Altman's return, the staff stated that Microsoft informed the staff of OpenAI that there were jobs available for each of them should they decide to work for its recently established AI division.
