Viam collaborates with Universal Robots to improve the automation of industries using robotics powered by AI.
Viam has declared its strategic alliance with Universal Robots to hasten the next-generation automation in the manufacturing and marine sectors. The cobots in the UR Series of Universal Robots will now become flagship hardware in the growing intelligent robotics ecosystem of Viam.
The increased partnership will help Viam to provide AI-powered robotic surfacing systems that flow production, weigh down on delays, and raise consistency. Given the current labor shortage among the manufacturers, solutions by Viam enable companies to automate physically tasking procedures, which opens up a line of new productivity and revenue opportunities.
The robotic block sanding system developed by Viam in the marine industry will add a new level of automation to the process of fiberglass sanding, which is typically a laborious and tedious one. The system is flexible to the sizes of the components used and is compatible with flexible robotic arms, which are incomparable to construction companies in building yachts and in the manufacture of boats.
In addition to marine applications, adaptive automation of Viam covers the working field of paint and gelcoats, sanding of the wood, and polishing of industries. This increases its influence in furniture, construction and overall manufacturing.
According to the leaders of Teradyne Robotics and Viam, the collaboration became the driver of quick innovation. Hardware-agnostic Viam works with equipment from both big and small industrial arms and with a robot in its New York and Italy laboratories.
A robotic sanding solution will be launched in Europe at Metstrade 2025, following its presentation at IBEX 2025, a breakthrough in the uptake of robotic sanding solutions on the international system scene.
