Heavy duty pickups trucks over 132,000 are recalled by GM due to faulty tailgate release switches which would cause the gates to open improperly and pose a safety hazard.
Expanding the hold on a call for all of its heavy-duty pickups is General Motors, and that has to do with the tailgate release switches that can cause a probable safety hazard. Included now in the recall are more than 132,000 and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks, which expand a February recall originally set for 323,000 vehicles.
It has to do with the electric release switch of the tailgate that short-circuits when it got wet and then unceremoniously opens while the automobile is parked. This is dangerous because the unsecured cargo will just tumble down the road, creating a risk for other drivers.
Only trucks that come with the manual gate and power lock and move will be affected by this particular recall. Internal GM investigation found out that there are amid 237 reports about tailgates that opened with no one being there, hence the need for expanding the recall.
Car owners advised to check their tailgates before driving to ensure they are locked properly. The dealerships will upon their return exchange the faulty exterior touchpad switch assemblies with superior ones after redesigning them to water intrusion.
On January 13, 2025, General Motors will start informing owners through letters. This goes to show how important it is for the automobile industry to bring issues to the fore on safety. It makes sure that even in preventing accidents, both drivers and other road users are secured.
