Verizon Wireless is facing a $100 million class-action settlement, allegedly adding an additional administrative charge to customers' monthly bills to "extract additional cash."
A $100 million class-action settlement may be available for some Verizon customers to claim, but they must move quickly to get paid. In order to "extract additional cash" from customers, Verizon Wireless was accused of adding an additional "administrative charge" to their monthly bills. The action was settled in favor of the mobile service provider. Verizon is paying the settlement to resolve a lawsuit that was brought last year by both current and former customers. Verizon consumers' attorneys have filed a case alleging that the firm "deceived" subscribers by illegally adding an "administrative charge" to their monthly bills "without [their] consent."
Furthermore, lawyers in the complaint claim that Verizon consistently charged its customers higher monthly rates than it advertised and promised, and that it never properly or honestly disclosed the cost to them prior to their service subscription. The settlement website states that Verizon disputes any wrongdoing.
The settlement agreement outlines the eligibility for compensation for both present and prior Verizon customers who had a postpaid card wireless or data service plan and were charged an administrative charge and/or an administrative and Telco recovery charge between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023. Plans that are postpaid require customers to pay for services at the conclusion of each month's billing cycle.
