India Negotiates Iron Dome Technology in High-Stakes Defense Talks with Israel

Proposed technology transfer under ‘Make in India’ could strengthen India’s missile defense and boost local manufacturing.

India may soon take a significant step forward in defense technology as discussions advance around gaining access to Israel’s renowned Iron Dome missile defense system. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, talks focused on expanding defense cooperation between the two countries, with technology transfer emerging as a key highlight.

According to Yaniv Revach, Israel’s Consul General, the potential agreement goes beyond a simple arms purchase. “The aim is not just to sell a system, but to manufacture in India and share advanced technologies such as Iron Dome,” Revach explained, emphasizing deeper collaboration under India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Developed by Israel, the Iron Dome is widely regarded as one of the world’s most effective missile defense systems. It is designed to intercept short- and medium-range rockets, drones, and missiles before they strike populated areas. With a reported interception success rate of over 90 percent, it has proven highly reliable during recent regional conflicts.

For India, acquiring the technology could significantly enhance protection for cities, military bases, and strategic assets. More importantly, local production would strengthen India’s push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

If finalized, the collaboration would mark a strategic milestone in Indo-Israeli relations, blending advanced defense capability with domestic industrial growth, and potentially reshaping India’s future security landscape.
