The wildlife deparment takes a major step to support conservation efforts as people now can adopt lions, tigers, and other animals from Jambu Zoo in Jammu.
At Jambu Zoo in Jammu's Jagti, the Jammu and Kashmir wildlife protection department has introduced an adoption program that enables anyone to adopt endangered species as part of their conservation efforts. This program seeks to give people a special chance to help and take care of animals while also involving the community in the preservation of wildlife.
Inspired by similar programs elsewhere, Anil Atri, the additional director of Jambu Zoo, emphasized the program's importance in encouraging community participation in wildlife protection. Presently, the zoo is home to 150 animals from 18 different species, all of which are up for adoption. These creatures include crocodiles, lions, tigers, leopards, and other bird species.
In order to encourage a sense of responsibility and connection, adopters' names and photos will be put on plaques outside the enclosures housing the animals they have chosen. The monthly feed costs for lions and tigers are ₹7,000, whereas the adoption fees are fixed at modest rates for crocodiles.
The program has been well received since its inception, and a number of animal enthusiasts have already pledged to adopt lions, tigers, and jungle cats. Digital payment processing via government accounts guarantees accountability and openness in the feeding and maintenance of adopted animals.
This effort main intention is to educate and raise awareness about the significance of safeguarding endangered species in Jammu and Kashmir in addition to promoting the protection of wildlife.
