As Luxury Travel Brands Launch Their Own Ships, the Future of High-End Voyaging Is Taking on New Horizons—All Aboard the Mega-Yachts of Tomorrow
In a bold move reshaping luxury travel, top-tier hotel and tour brands are now setting sail with their own fleets of ultra-luxurious ships. These floating paradises, poised to redefine the high seas, are not your average cruise liners. Instead, they represent the pinnacle of luxury, blending the opulence of five-star resorts with the allure of ocean exploration.
Among the first to chart this new course is the Galapagos Explorer, a lavishly refurbished yacht owned by andBeyond, a company celebrated for its upscale African safaris. Accommodating just 12 guests, this exclusive vessel offers seven-night cruises through the Galapagos Islands starting at $16,800 per person. The focus here is on intimate, personalized experiences, echoing the bespoke nature of the brand’s land-based offerings.
But andBeyond is not alone in this maritime venture. The iconic luxury tour company Abercrombie & Kent, through its acquisition of Crystal Cruises in 2022, is also making waves in the industry. Not to be outdone, Marriott International’s Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection launched its first ship, Evrima, the same year. With grand suites, ten dining venues, and a watersports marina, Ritz-Carlton is setting a new standard for luxury at sea, with two more vessels, Ilma and Luminara, scheduled for release in 2024 and 2025.
Meanwhile, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts is gearing up to launch its first ship in late 2025, with another to follow in 2026. These yet-to-be-named vessels will boast a 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio, ensuring unparalleled service for the 190 passengers on board. The ships will feature 11 dining options, a wellness center, and a 20-meter saltwater pool.
Adding to the excitement, Accor will introduce the world’s largest sailing yacht in 2026—the Orient Express Silenseas, a 220-meter vessel complete with two pools, a spa, and even a private recording studio. And in 2027, Aman Resorts will launch Aman at Sea, a 183-meter mega-yacht offering exclusive amenities like two helicopters and a Japanese garden for its 100 guests.
