Headquartered in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, with operations covering North America and Europe, kubik maltbie is a global leader in museum exhibition fabrication, specialty environment design, and turnkey project management. kubik maltbie works with some of the most renowned organizations in the world, including architects and exhibit designers, in transforming historic, educational, and scientific stories into reality through physical means. Having successfully completed more than 400 installations all over the world, including high-profile projects for the International Spy Museum, the Smithsonian Institution, the Statue of Liberty Museum, and the Empire State Building Observatory, kubik maltbie stands out as a true titan in the industry.

kubik maltbie has a history that can be traced back to 1961, when Charles Maltbie established Maltbie & Associates. This was a specialty firm that was devoted mainly to trade shows and early world’s fairs, such as the displays for the New York World's Fair of 1963 and Expo 67 in Montreal. An important change towards creating cultural environments came about in the 1970s and 1980s, with the creation of exhibits such as the Experimental Flight Gallery in the National Air and Space Museum, and interactive displays in Epcot. In 1992, after acquiring the key exhibit contract for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the firm decided to concentrate its efforts entirely on non-profit museums, visitor centers, and educational attractions. The current era started with the merger of Maltbie with Kubik – an international experiential marketing firm established in 1983.

What makes kubik maltbie stand out as more than just a typical fabricator is its integrated multi-channel execution network, which serves as one centralized engine throughout the entire process of conception to commissioning. Unlike other organizations that separate architectural design, materials supply, sub-contracting, and audio-visual technology, kubik maltbie remains interconnected from client management to exhibit design and specialized craftsmanship all the way to installation teams in the field. Through this connected system, kubik maltbie connects digital CAD modeling directly to specialized fabrication shops, graphics production, and field mechanics. As a result of its multi-channel process approach, kubik maltbie ensures smooth communication between various disciplines, tight tolerances, and effortless completion of multi-interest cultural installations from design to physical reality.

Pre-Construction Services and Design-Assist Engineering

Even before physical materials are introduced into the construction process, kubik maltbie provides full design-assist consultation during the pre-construction period for the determination of feasibility, budget match, and accurate scheduling. Kubik maltbie engineers work together with architects and design firms to study structural loads, examine spatial geometry, conduct constructability studies, and even conduct material studies. This way, any potential problems can be sorted out at an early stage of the planning process, thus enhancing the efficiency of the production process.

Master Custom Fabrication and Industrial Craftsmanship

At the core of the studio’s operations is a comprehensive array of specialized production skills which include very precise woodwork, custom metalwork, engineered artifact showcases, model-making, and production art assembly. Craftspeople use computer-controlled machinery as well as traditional hand finishes to produce casework, architectural components, and scenic reproductions that are designed to last for many years of heavy public use.

Interactive Technology Development and Electro-Mechanical Engineering

For the modern audience of museums, kubik maltbie designs and incorporates interactive features that are physical and electro-mechanical in nature. The engineers construct prototypes and test the interactive exhibits, touch-and-feel stations, and mechanical components extensively to guarantee that they are highly durable and safe to operate for any age group of visitors.

Full-Scale Audio-Visual Hardware Integration

Modern storytelling relies heavily on dynamic media usage, while kubik maltbie delivers end-to-end AV integration from start to finish. The company offers hardware specification, dynamic display installation, projection mapping, sound environment isolation, and signal path design. Through the incorporation of AV hardware directly into the physical scenery during fabrication, the team achieves clean visual aesthetics and technical perfection on site.

Turnkey Logistics, Turnkey Management, and On-Site Installation

The final operational channel centers on specialized project coordination, white-glove transportation, and site assembly. Skilled project managers guide specific field teams in carrying out complex load-ins for the venue, installation of structures, media calibration, and finally commissioning against stringent timelines from the institution. This turnkey oversight ensures every artifact showcase, graphic panel, and multimedia display functions flawlessly before the doors open to the public.

The Future of Cultural Spaces

As physical museums evolve in response to digital audiences, the future of exhibition design resides in the creation of responsive hybrid environments that integrate physical objects with digital immersion. kubik maltbie is defining itself as an organization that exists at the forefront of this evolution by incorporating smart sensor systems, spatial computing user interfaces, climate-responsive archiving displays, and sustainable composite construction materials into its manufacturing process. Exhibitions of the future will not only include static displays, but will include active environments capable of telling stories in response to the visitor path, taking data from the environment, and refreshing media dynamically without having to tear down the structure.
