A new twist on the Superman legacy, ‘DC Crime’ turns the superhero world into a gripping true-crime saga hosted by Jimmy Olsen.
The Superman universe is about to take an unexpected turn with the development of a new spinoff series titled DC Crime, from DC Studios and HBO Max. According to the reports, the upcoming show will reimagine the superhero world through the lens of a true-crime documentary, with Jimmy Olsen, Superman’s trusted friend and Daily Planet photographer serving as the host. Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo in James Gunn’s summer blockbuster Superman, will guide viewers through the darker corners of the DC Universe.
The first season is set to spotlight Gorilla Grodd, the telepathic supervillain often known for clashing with The Flash. Originally introduced in 1959, Grodd gained his extraordinary powers after an encounter with an alien spaceship and has since become one of DC’s most iconic villains, even appearing in the Arrowverse television franchise.
The series comes from Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault, the creative duo behind Netflix’s hit mockumentary American Vandal, known for their sharp, satirical take on modern storytelling. Both will write, executive produce, and showrun DC Crime, alongside DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran, with Galen Vaisman overseeing production.
Meanwhile, Gunn’s Superman film has been submitted for multiple Golden Globe 2026 drama categories, signaling DC’s ambition to elevate the superhero genre into cinematic prestige across social media.
With DC Crime, fans can expect something truly fresh, a superhero story told not with capes and battles, but with suspense, mystery, and a reporter’s eye for the truth.
