The Hollywood studios and streaming services coalition made what it thought was its best offer to the striking writers.
The coalition released the terms of its latest contract on Tuesday evening in the hopes of convincing the Writers Guild of America to accept it.
A guaranteed minimum length of employment, restrictions on the use of generative artificial intelligence, pay and residual increases, and quarterly reports on the number of viewing hours per title for streaming shows are some of the concessions the studios claimed to have offered.
The decision was made during a face-to-face meeting between industry executives and WGA leadership on Tuesday evening. The strike is entering its fourth month, and if an agreement is not reached soon, the 2023-2024 television season and many high-profile films are likely to be delayed or cancelled entirely.
Carol Lombardini, President of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, stated that they had come to the table with an offer that addressed the writers' top priorities. He stated that they were strongly committed to ending the strike and were hoping that the WGA would follow suit.
The coalition, which comprises major entertainment corporations like Disney, Warner Bros., Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount, stated that their latest offer addressed "all of the issues" highlighted as important priorities by the writers.
The WGA and AMPTP resumed talks on Aug. 11, giving the industry confidence that the two sides could reach an agreement that would pave the way for a settlement with the Screen Actors Guild, which went on strike in July.
