The head of Microsoft Xbox suggests using AI tools, such as ChatGPT, to provide assistance with everyday life, career guidance, and emotional support in light of the significant layoffs at the corporation.

The recommendation by a Microsoft Xbox executive, who advised people to rely on AI tools, such as ChatGPT, which can offer emotional and career advice after layoffs, has attracted both positive and negative responses. Matt Turnbull, executive producer at Xbox Games Studio, posted the suggestion recently in a deleted LinkedIn post during a rash of job cuts at Microsoft that have affected some 9,100 employees.

Turnbull emphasized the pressure of losing a job and offered the help of AI in such duties as creating a resume, job searching, and career development. He also admitted that, although AI cannot be a substitute for human interaction, it could assist people to cope with emotional overload.

The recommendation comes at a time when Microsoft undergoes its second round of massive layoffs of employees, specifically in the Xbox division, this year, an occurrence that led to several projects being canceled. In the meantime, Microsoft is still betting on AI with a promise to invest 80 billion dollars in the development of this technology in the year 2024.

There have been concerns among experts that AI is not a beneficial source of personal guidance because there is rarely a guarantee of accuracy and empathy. Even the ChatGPT created with Microsoft support warns us of excess dependency.
