Oracle and NVIDIA to Build the Largest AI Supercomputer for the US Department of Energy

Powered by Oracle and 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, the Solstice system will accelerate breakthroughs in science, energy, and national security, cementing US leadership.

NVIDIA, in a recent press meet has announced a monumental collaboration with Oracle to build the largest AI supercomputer for the US Department of Energy (DOE), to accelerate scientific discovery.

The Solstice system will feature a record-breaking 100,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, and this will support the DOE’s ultimate mission of developing AI capabilities to build technological leadership across the US security, science, and energy applications. And there will also be an additional system called Equinox, which will include 10,000 NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs and is expected to be available in the first half of 2026. Both these systems will be interconnected by NVIDIA’s powerful networking and will deliver a combined 2,200 exaflops of AI performance.

The Solstice and Equinox supercomputers will be located at Argonne National Laboratory. They will be allow the scientists and researchers to develop and train new frontier and AI reasoning models for open science using the NVIDIA Megatron-Core library and will scale them using the NVIDIA TensorRT™ inference software stack. These models are expected to form the core of agentic AI workflows for scientific discovery.

Both AI supercomputers will play a pivotal role in supporting NVIDIA, Argonne and the DOE’s research collaborations to build agentic scientists and boosting R&D productivity. They will be serving as the pillar for larger-scale collaboration across science, energy, and national security to deploy industry-leading infrastructure and further secure US leadership in AI for decades to come.
