Visakhapatnam Opens New E-Waste Recycling Plant

India opens a modern e-waste recycling plant in Visakhapatnam, enhancing recycling and waste management in promoting sustainability and employment.

M/s Eyantram Waste Management Pvt. Ltd. has opened a new e-waste recycling facility in the AMTZ Campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The plant is constructed upon the technology invented by CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) in Jamshedpur to salvage useful materials out of electronic waste.

Padma Shri Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, and Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD and CEO of AMTZ, attended the inauguration. The plan is to pursue the concept of zero-waste, which corresponds to the national interests of sustainable development and environmental protection.

Over the last twenty years, CSIR-NML has been improving recycling technologies, providing low-cost and energy-efficient recycling processes to help boost the recycling and waste management industry in India. Such processes allow salvaging of valuable and rare earth metals and lower the environmental hazards of untreated e-waste.

Officials emphasized that the recycling plant will empower India with its Swachhata Abhiyan and Atmanirbhar Bharat programs and provide a source of jobs to engineers, startups and entrepreneurs. Experts also highlighted the role of the product in preventing soil and water contamination with poisonous metals.

As India generates huge quantities of e-waste on a yearly basis, the facility is a significant move toward scaling responsible recycling and waste management solutions to promote economic and environmental gains.
