According to reports, the San Francisco Travel Association (SFTA) confirmed that Meta and Red Hat both postponed events that were planned to take place in San Francisco in 2024.

The Moscone Center was supposed to host Red Hat and Meta’s events. According to the San Francisco Business Journal, the Red Hat event was planned to last four days and result in 20,000 hotel bookings. However, both events have been rescheduled until further notice.

The event was scheduled to take place at the software behemoth in May 2024.

Red Hat addressed the changes in a statement, saying that even when they plan to host an event in a specific city months in advance, they occasionally need to adjust their plans due to internal scheduling conflicts or unavoidable unforeseen events. This will be the case for the Denver-hosted Red Hat Summit in 2024.

The Moscone Center event for Red Hat in 2025 was also postponed. According to the SFTA, they intend to hold their summit in San Francisco in 2026, 2028, 2030, and 2032.

The parent company of Facebook, Meta, intended to host its event in March 2024.

According to the SFTA, as has been noted over the previous five years (prior to the pandemic), 2024 will likely continue to be a difficult year for conventions in San Francisco. Despite 2023 being a busy year for conventions, 2024 is predicted to actualize at about 60% of the average. The good news is that growth will continue after 2024, with 2028 and later years trending to be above 90% of the average.
