Ayush Shetty becomes the first Indian male to win a senior badminton championship when he lifts the 2025 US Open.

Ayush Shetty is a household name in the sports environment after clinching his maiden senior title at the 2025 US Open Super 300. Shetty returned a dramatic 39-shot comeback in a semi-final against sixth seed Chou Tien Chen, being agile and hustling as he posted his jump smash.

The 20-year-old Indian shuttler then downed Canada's Brian Yang after a tough final to clinch the title and become the first Indian to win a senior tour trophy this season. His performances in earlier events in 2025 at the Orleans Masters and Taipei Open meant that he had already become a prospect in Indian sports.

Having studied at the Prakash Padukone Academy, it is not difficult to see how Shetty takes sports seriously; he is also studying a BSc in Sports Science at Reva University. Internationally, he came through with a bronze medal in the men's singles category at the 2023 BWF World Junior Championships.
