2025 César Nominations Unveiled with Strong Presence of Animated Features and Visual Effects

At the César Awards the governing body recognizes excellent work in animated features as well as animated shorts and visual effects along with notable films such as The Count of Monte-Cristo.

The members of the French Academy of Arts have announced the nominees for the 2025 Césars which showcase the full spectrum of talent within French cinema. Among 24 categories the Academy selected 11 nominations while animation received significant attention. Notably, Michel Hazanavicius’ animated feature The Most Precious of Cargoes, about a found family during the Holocaust, earned three nominations: Best Animated Feature, Adaptation (Hazanavicius and Jean-Claude Grumberg), and Original Music (Alexandre Desplat).

The Best Animated Feature nomination included Savages and both Flow and The Most Precious of Cargoes. Additionally, three animated short films are competing for Best Animated Short: Yuck!, GiGi, and Papillon (Butterfly).

Visual effects nominations in the César awards were dominated by The Count of Monte-Cristo alongside Emilia Pérez. The Count of Monte-Cristo achieved 14 nominations and placed ahead of L’Amour Ouf while Emilia Pérez tied at second with 14 nominations.

The César voting process for this year extends from February 5 until February 28 before the ceremony occurs on February 28 at the Parisian Olympia. Actress Julia Roberts and filmmaker Costa-Gavras accept Honorary Césars during the upcoming award ceremony for demonstrating remarkable achievements in movie making.
