Jonathan Barnes Architecture Restores Historic Farm

Award-winning design merges architecture with nature to create a sustainable event space at Jorgensen Farms.

Jonathan Barnes Architecture and Design (JBAD) has brought new life to the Jorgensen Farms, a historic 100-acre organic farm and event venue in Central Ohio. The firm has carefully restored the farm and designed a Ceremony Building and Bridal Suites that integrate seamlessly with the surrounding natural beauty. These structures are connected by a processional walkway that winds through flower gardens and agricultural fields, enhancing the flow from pre-ceremony areas to post-reception spaces.

The thoughtful design has earned recognition, with JBAD receiving the prestigious 2024 American Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

At the heart of the project is the celebration of nature and agriculture, with the farm’s stunning flower gardens and planting fields playing a key role in the experience. The venue also serves as a model of sustainability, using its own produce and flowers for events while recycling waste in a closed-loop system.

In addition to hosting events, Jorgensen Farms supports local restaurants and food kitchens by supplying fresh, organic produce. This commitment to eco-friendly practices makes the farm a shining example of how architecture and nature can work together to create a sustainable and beautiful space.
