Miles Friday, Berlin Residency, Global Sound Exploration

Through collaboration and creative innovation along with technological advancements the UTSA's Miles Friday becomes a Berlin resident to explore world audio arts and to extend musical boundaries.

From July 15 to October 8 sound artist and educator Miles Friday of UTSA School of Music will occupy the esteemed Künstlerhaus Bethanien residence in Berlin. Through his experimental methods in music and percussion Friday plans to fully experience one of the world’s most vital communities dedicated to sound art.

According to Friday the residency allows him to examine worldwide standards of music creation. He intends to break through sound limitations while testing modern technologies and teaming up with worldwide artists.

The historical progress of sonic creation in Berlin creates excellent conditions for Friday to rethink musical functions within society. The residency allows him to investigate modern sound approaches for developing better methods to understand diverse social audio experiences among various cultures.

The residency program grants Friday access to advanced studio facilities along with a creative community which helps him create lengthy sound-based artistic projects. This opportunity carries profound significance beyond a work-related assignment because it allows him to explore experimental music first-hand.

The artist stated his desire to apply music both for public show and strategic thinking and societal transformation.

The time spent in Berlin by Friday will bring innovative concepts to UTSA as well as strengthen the universal power of music as a connector.
