Mitsubishi Motors has announced it is returning to the battery-electric vehicle sector in Australia and New Zealand with the release of the Mitsubishi ASX VR-E. The car is set to go on sale in late 2026 and is the first electric vehicle the company has produced since the i-MiEV. The upcoming electric crossover will be manufactured in Taiwan by Yulon Motor using a specialized architecture co-developed with Foxconn’s automotive subsidiary. Local buyers will be offered four distinct trim levels designed to span diverse customer preferences:

• LS and Aspire variants serving as entry and mid-tier trim options.

• Exceed and performance-inspired GSR models providing premium appointments.

• Tailored suspension and chassis tuning refined specifically for regional driving conditions.

The use of the "VR" tag is derived from the legacy of the brand, with Mitsubishi drawing inspiration from pioneering models like the Galant VR-4 and its intention to showcase its electric capabilities.

The new vehicle has a design developed by Pininfarina and features like the S-Duct along with active grille shutters for perfect air circulation.

This new product has the ability for DC fast charging and can be charged from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes.

The automobile is built with lithium iron phosphate battery technology and a rear-wheel-drive engine setup.

By entering the ever-evolving competitive compact electric crossover segment, this new model will face not only the BYD Atto 3 but also the Hyundai Kona Electric as its competition.
