Office sharing space company WeWork’s shares dropped 24% in New York’s trading. With the company’s continuous struggle, the future seems unlikely.
Once a globally well-known office sharing space company, WeWork has since thrown itself under the bus after continuous reports of its failures. The future of the company, according to reports, seems doubtful.
According to reports, in the extended trading session in New York, shares of the company fell by nearly 24%. The company has said that in order to keep the firm afloat, their management will need to raise extra capital over the next year.
WeWork, which is currently backed by Softbank, a Japanese tech giant, suffered during the pandemic like many other companies due to rules regarding social distancing that made working from home a much more popular concept.
Even after employees started returning to offices as coronavirus restrictions relaxed, WeWork has not yet made a profit.
WeWork said in a statement on Tuesday that it was facing difficulties, such as softened demand and a "difficult" operating environment.
At the moment, WeWork has 512,000 members using its workspaces in 33 different nations.
It was included in a deal that valued WeWork at $9 billion in 2021. That was roughly a fifth of the value predicted for 2019.
The business has had a hard time adjusting to problems in the technology industry. This year has seen the departure of a number of top executives, including chairman and chief executive Sandeep Mathrani. Over the past year, shares of the company have decreased by more than 95%.
