BRACELET-1 trial demonstrates significant survival benefits with pelareorep treatment in advanced breast cancer patients.
Oncolytics Biotech® Inc. (NASDAQ: ONCY) has reported encouraging final results from its Phase 2 BRACELET-1 study, evaluating pelareorep in combination with paclitaxel for HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer. The study revealed a median overall survival (OS) that was not reached in the pelareorep + paclitaxel group, as over half the patients remained alive at the study’s conclusion. This compares favorably to the 18.2-month OS in the paclitaxel-only arm, with a hazard ratio of 0.48 favoring pelareorep.
Further, the study showed that the two-year survival rate for patients receiving pelareorep + paclitaxel nearly doubled to 64%, compared to 33% in the paclitaxel monotherapy group. Median progression-free survival (PFS) also improved, with patients in the combination arm experiencing 12.1 months versus 6.4 months in the monotherapy group.
Wayne Pisano, Interim CEO of Oncolytics Biotech, highlighted the significance of these findings, stating, "This is a remarkable achievement for breast cancer treatment and validates pelareorep’s potential in improving patient outcomes."
The BRACELET-1 results reinforce the case for pelareorep-based therapies and support plans for a registration-enabling study. Oncolytics aims to continue its advancements in immunotherapy, targeting HR+/HER2- breast cancer and other malignancies with the potential for substantial impact.
