UN Women, GCF Partner to Boost Cybersecurity Inclusion

UN Women and GCF work together to increase women's participation in the field of cybersecurity to ensure inclusiveness, digital equality, and global workforce development.

UN Women is partnering with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to enhance women's representation in cybersecurity and promote gender equality. The partnership is in line with the Beijing+30 Action Agenda and UN Women's mandate to ensure a full and equal benefit for women from the digital revolution.

Under the MoU, the organizations will host high-level convenings, cross-learning events, and digital advocacy programs, facilitated by GCF's Women Empowerment in Cybersecurity and UN Women's global innovation projects. These initiatives seek to open doors to firms that have women in the cybersecurity workforce.

According to the GCF 2024 Cybersecurity Workforce Report, there is a serious gender divide (only 24% of the global cyber professionals are women). This underrepresented diversity calls for specific alliances and programs to promote diversity in the sector.

They will also work together to create and use synergies in gender equality and its role in showing how closing the digital divide can have wider socio-economic impacts. According to UN Women's Gender Snapshot: 2025, closing this gap would empower well over 343 million women and girls worldwide, lift 30 million people out of poverty by 2050, and add USD 1.5 trillion to the global GDP by 2030.

Both organizations underlined that increasing women's participation in cybersecurity was not just about fairness: it comprises a means of better resiliency of the digital space, as well as one of promoting innovation and of ensuring greater inclusivity in the protection against new cyber threats.

By advocating for change, working together for change, and training men, UN Women and GCF aim to produce a more inclusive, robust and forward-thinking cybersecurity landscape to the benefit of the women worldwide.
