Bangladesh intends to launch Starlink internet within the CHT schools and increase access to e-learning and close the gap between the rural and urban educational sectors.
The Bangladesh government plans to roll out Starlink satellite internet service in 100 schools in the Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) over the next six months to improve the capacity of e-learning among students in remote locations.
CHT Affairs Advisor Supradip Chakma said that such a move will transform the teaching and learning process in the hilly region and the students will be able to participate in the online classes under the guidance of experienced teachers based in urban centers, giving them parity in terms of quality education. He added that this will go a long way in empowering students so that they are conversant with technology that will aid in higher education and progress in their careers.
The government is planning to provide ethnically diverse groups in CHT with technology-based and quality education. There are plans of constructing hostels and putting up colleges of engineering and nursing as well as upgrading the school infrastructure to facilitate access to e-learning.
Chakma reiterated that satellite-based education shall bridge the gap between the rural and urban education, make it less reliant on the quotas and compete effectively. The overall plan for the development of this region incorporates aspects of growing bamboo, fisheries, farming cashews and coffee, and the economic potential of Kaptai Lake.
Chakma reaffirmed the commitment of the government in the same vein as he said, “We need to ensure the prosperity and unity of Bangladesh as there is no one in CHT who is left behind.”
