Nagaland Schools, Students, and Institutions Lead Charge for Environmental Sustainability

To mark World Environment Day 2025, Nagaland institutions choose eco-friendly actions by banning plastic, planting trees and leading awareness sessions.

Nagaland marked World Environment Day 2025 by sharing a strong message about protecting the environment. With the help of “Act For India,” St. Mary Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, Libemo Memorial School, Wokha and Milon School, Dimapur introduced eco-friendly habits by providing each student with stainless steel water bottles and incorporating nature conservation in their lessons.

Collaboration supports environmental well-being by following the SDGs and supporting students who avoid using plastic. Various institutions came up with zero-waste syllabuses and aimed to support green classrooms so as to demonstrate school officials’ environmental care.

The Nagaland University Research Scholars’ Forum (NURSF), located in Kohima, organized a competition letting youth show their dedication to the environment. Planting videos and awareness posts were accepted and the winners were chosen based on people’s engagement on social media.

Other activities were a plantation drive at the Legislature Quarters in Thizama led by Minister CL John aimed at “Ending Plastic Pollution.” The Forest Department provided support to Western Sümi Students’ Union (WSSU) as they planted trees.

The widespread interest in a slogan competition focused on plastic pollution demonstrated the state's serious commitment to protecting the environment. Schools, universities and civic bodies are teaming up in Nagaland to ensure it becomes more environmentally sustainable.
